CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Nishio. Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain created history by winning the gold medal at the Asian Games 2026. Lovlina, who stepped into the ring on her 29th birthday, defeated China’s Bao Jiyi 5-0 by unanimous decision in the final of the women’s 75kg category.

With this victory, Lovlina became the second Indian woman boxer after Mary Kom to win gold in women’s boxing at the Asian Games. Mary Kom had won the gold medal in the 51kg category at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games. India had to wait 12 years for its next gold in women’s boxing.

Lovlina’s run to the final was also impressive. In the quarter-final, she defeated South Korea’s Seong Suyon 5-0, while in the semi-final she beat Kazakhstan’s reigning world champion Natalya Bogdanova 3-2 to reach the Asian Games final for the second consecutive time. She also became the first Indian woman boxer to reach the final at two consecutive Asian Games.

Lovlina had earlier won a silver medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games. This time, she changed the colour of her medal and delivered a historic women’s boxing gold for India. For Lovlina, the Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist, this birthday victory has become one of the major achievements of her career.
