CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain created history by winning the gold medal in the women’s 75kg category at the Asian Games 2026. In the final played on Friday, Lovlina defeated China’s Zie Bao by a 5-0 unanimous decision. With this victory, she converted the silver medal she had won at the previous Asian Games into gold.
Lovlina has become the second Indian woman boxer to win gold at the Asian Games. Before her, Mary Kom had won the gold medal in the women’s 48kg category in 2014. Lovlina’s achievement also marks the return of an Asian Games gold medal for Indian women’s boxing after 12 years.
India’s medal campaign at the Asian Games 2026 has also continued to strengthen. According to the October 2 update, India is sixth in the medal table with a total of 70 medals, including 12 gold, 24 silver and 34 bronze. Apart from Lovlina’s gold, the Indian women’s recurve team also claimed a historic gold medal. Lovlina’s win has added strength to the performance of the Indian boxing contingent, and her achievement has been significant in increasing India’s gold medal tally at the Asian Games.
