CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Lucknow Police intensified its Anti-Romeo campaign in the Hazratganj area on Thursday as part of efforts to strengthen the safety of women and female students. The campaign included awareness activities at National PG College and increased police monitoring at public places.
The Anti-Romeo and Pink Scooty teams visited National PG College and interacted with female students. Police personnel provided information about safety measures, police assistance and the importance of promptly reporting any uncomfortable or suspicious situation. Students were encouraged to remain alert and seek police help when required.
Following the awareness programme, police teams conducted foot patrols across major roads, public areas and locations around Hazratganj where there is significant movement of students and women. Several people considered suspicious by the police were stopped and questioned about their presence and activities in the area.
Lucknow Police Commissioner Tarun Gaba, Joint Commissioner of Police Bablu Kumar, Hazratganj ACP Rajneesh Verma and Inspector Vikram Singh supervised the campaign. The Pink Scooty team also monitored routes used by students and women and interacted with them during the exercise.
Police officials said such awareness and monitoring drives would continue in colleges, markets, public transport areas and other locations with high movement of women. The campaign combines public awareness with surveillance of suspicious activities.
Police questioning during such a security drive does not by itself establish that a person has committed an offence. The stated objective of the exercise was to improve vigilance and provide a safer public environment for women and students.
