At the famous Maa Annapurna temple in Varanasi, Maa Annapurna’s treasury will traditionally be distributed to devotees on the occasion of Dhanteras. During this, coins of Maa Annapurna and other items will be given to devotees as prasad. It is estimated that around 8 to 10 lakh devotees will receive coins as prasad during this special event.
In Kashi, the tradition of having darshan of Maa Annapurna and receiving the treasury on Dhanteras carries special religious significance. It is believed that Maa Annapurna is the goddess of food and prosperity. Devotees consider the coins received from her court auspicious and keep them safely in their homes and places of worship. The faithful believe this helps maintain happiness, prosperity and a store of grain in the home.
In view of the festival, the temple administration makes preparations to manage the crowd of devotees. With a large number of devotees expected to arrive, special attention is being given to arrangements for darshan and prasad distribution.
This Dhanteras event is an important part of Kashi’s religious and cultural tradition, in which devotees from different parts of the country participate.
