The Indian women’s team refrained from accepting the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi. After this, Madan Lal, a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team and a former Indian cricketer, expressed anger over the entire episode.
Reacting on social media, Madan Lal described it as the “same old story”. He said that if such a situation continues, India should not play against Pakistan in any tournament. He also made it clear that the authority to take such a decision rests with the board.
In fact, this controversy has surfaced for the second consecutive year. In the 2025 men’s Asia Cup too, the Indian team did not accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi after defeating Pakistan. At that time as well, Madan Lal had suggested that the trophy could have been presented by another official.
However, the teams of India and Pakistan still play against each other in multinational tournaments. There has been no bilateral cricket series between the two countries for a long time.
