CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Madhya Pradesh has created a new milestone in green transport and the e-mobility sector. In the India Electric Mobility Index 2025 report released by NITI Aayog, the state has secured seventh place. In the 2024 index, Madhya Pradesh was ranked 23rd with 31 points, which has increased to 59 points in the IEMI 2025 assessment. This achievement has been made possible by the high priority given to environment-friendly development and a sustainable transport system.
Effective implementation of the Madhya Pradesh Electric Vehicle Policy 2025 has brought a wide-ranging change in the state’s e-mobility landscape. The EV Tarang portal was launched to provide transparent and digital services, giving citizens and industry easy access to e-mobility services.
Five major cities – Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior and Ujjain – have been identified for development as “EV Model Cities”, creating an environment favourable to electric vehicles. Public and private participation has also been encouraged. Owing to the state government’s policy incentives, active participation by private investors and operators has been ensured, enabling faster expansion of infrastructure.
The state has recorded a 124 percent increase in electric vehicle registrations. According to state-level data, compared with 58,524 e-vehicles registered in financial year 2024 – 25, the number rose to 1,31,158 in financial year 2025 – 26, reflecting an annual growth rate of 124 percent. Two-wheeler e-vehicle registrations increased from 54,108 to 1,06,136. Three-wheeler e-vehicle registrations rose from 3,061 to 19,003. Four-wheeler e-vehicle registrations increased from 1,284 to 3,486. In addition, during the period from March to September 2026, 1,00,064 e-vehicles were registered, accounting for 10.1 percent of total vehicle registrations, including e-vehicles and conventional fuel vehicles, during the period.
The charging network has been expanded extensively to ensure uninterrupted movement of e-vehicles in the state. As per the updated status for 2026, a total of 1,780 charging stations are operational in the state. Of these, 650 stations are being operated by public sector petroleum companies, including IOCL, BPCL and HPCL, while 1,130 stations are being run by private charging point operators.
NITI Aayog has appreciated Madhya Pradesh’s efforts. The comprehensive index, prepared by NITI Aayog in collaboration with World Resources Institute India, evaluates states on three key dimensions: progress in transport electrification, readiness of charging infrastructure, and electric vehicle research and innovation. The NITI Aayog report has especially appreciated Madhya Pradesh’s policy decisions, strengthening of the charging network and all-round development of the e-ecosystem.
