CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Farmer Welfare and Agricultural Development Minister Edal Kanshana Singh said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, Madhya Pradesh is continuously making progress in the agricultural sector. Completing two years of development and public service, the state government has taken concrete steps toward realizing the resolve of a prosperous Madhya Pradesh. He made these remarks during a press conference held at the auditorium of the Directorate of Public Relations.

The Agriculture Minister stated that Madhya Pradesh is now counted among the country’s leading agricultural states. The state ranks first in the country in soybean and maize production, while it holds second place in wheat, urad (black gram), lentil, chickpea, mustard, total oilseeds, pulses, food grains, and coarse grains. He described this achievement as the result of farmers’ hard work and the government’s farmer-friendly policies.

He further said that while the irrigated area was around 7.5 lakh hectares in 2002–03, it has increased to more than 55 lakh hectares in 2024–25. The target is to expand this to 65 lakh hectares within the next three years. The state is also rapidly promoting organic and natural farming.

To encourage Shri Anna (millets) in tribal regions, the Rani Durgavati Shri Anna Promotion Scheme has been launched, which is boosting the production and marketing of traditional crops such as kodo and kutki. For the financial security of farmers, crores of rupees have been transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts under schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, Chief Minister Kisan Kalyan Yojana, and the Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme.

The Agriculture Minister also informed that under the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana, special focus is being placed on agricultural production and rural prosperity in eight aspirational districts of the state. He emphasized that the government is committed to increasing farmers’ income, making agriculture sustainable, and ensuring that Madhya Pradesh leads the country in the agricultural sector.
