CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh scholarship gives Neeraj Chauhan’s dreams a global flight
CNN Central News and Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: When determination is strong and opportunity arrives at the right time, even limited resources cannot block the path to success. The story of Neeraj Chauhan, a resident of Bhopal’s Ashima Mall area, reflects this belief. Born into an ordinary farmer’s family, Neeraj kept his dreams alive despite severe financial constraints and is today counted among young experts making their mark internationally.
Neeraj’s father supported the family through farming. Despite limited income, he never allowed any compromise in his son’s education. From childhood, Neeraj was interested in higher education and research. He wanted to study abroad and contribute to society through his knowledge and experience, but financial challenges were a major obstacle in the way of his dreams.
After completing his B.Com. from BSS College with excellent marks, Neeraj secured admission to the LLM (Global Environment and Climate Change Law) programme at the prestigious University of Edinburgh in Britain. It was a defining opportunity in his life, but the cost of studying and living abroad was beyond what the family could afford.
At that time, he came to know about the Madhya Pradesh government’s Backward Class Overseas Study Scholarship Scheme. Yogendra Raj, Assistant Director in the District Backward Class and Minority Welfare Department, guided him about the scheme and helped him prepare the required documents.
Under the scheme, Neeraj received tuition fees, residential expenses and other academic assistance. This support from the government opened a path for him that had almost been closed because of financial hardship. He not only completed his studies successfully, but also actively participated in several research projects during the course of his study and showcased his talent on international platforms.
After completing his education, Neeraj began his professional career with a reputed multinational organisation. He is counted among experts in his field and from time to time also guides young people and students in Madhya Pradesh on higher education and career building.
Neeraj says, “If I had not received support from the Madhya Pradesh government’s Overseas Study Scholarship Scheme, my dream of studying abroad might never have been fulfilled. This scheme is a ray of hope for talented students who dare to dream big despite financial difficulties.”
It is noteworthy that the Madhya Pradesh government’s Backward Class Overseas Study Scholarship Scheme has been in operation since 2007. The objective of the scheme is to provide meritorious students from backward classes an opportunity to pursue postgraduate and research-level higher education abroad so that they can showcase their talent globally and bring recognition to the state and the country.
Neeraj Chauhan’s success is proof that public welfare schemes of the government do not merely provide financial assistance, but also give dreams a new direction and the future a new identity.
