CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: Chennai. The Madras High Court has issued notices to the Union government and other parties on a public interest litigation seeking an inquiry into the nationality and background of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) spokesperson and journalist Saurav Das. A division bench of Chief Justice S.A. Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arul Murugan sought responses from the parties concerned. The matter will be heard next after six weeks.

The petition has been filed by Ganesh Kumar, a resident of Kanchipuram. The petitioner has sought a detailed inquiry into Saurav Das’s identity, family background and nationality. The petition alleges that Das made objectionable remarks against the judiciary and judges of the Supreme Court. These allegations are, at present, part of the petition, and the court has not given any finding on them.

The petitioner has sought that if the inquiry confirms that Das is not an Indian citizen, action should be taken to cancel his passport and Aadhaar card. The plea has also sought directions to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to block his X and Instagram accounts and to restrain him from making alleged objectionable remarks against the judiciary.

During the hearing, petitioner’s counsel B. Jagannath told the court that a complaint in this regard had been submitted to the authorities concerned on October 7, but no action was taken. He also referred to documents annexed with the petition, on which the bench sought some clarifications.

For now, the court has only sought responses from the parties concerned. No final decision has been given on Saurav Das’s nationality, identity or documents.
