CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Maharashtra government has approved a pilot project to recruit staff for Mobile Forensic Vans, marking a significant step towards strengthening crime investigation in the state. These specialized vans will allow forensic experts to reach crime scenes quickly, collect evidence more efficiently, and ensure the integrity of crucial samples.
Officials said that this initiative is aimed at addressing delays in forensic examinations due to limited lab infrastructure and high caseloads. By deploying mobile units equipped with modern forensic tools, the police will be able to conduct on-spot investigations, which can fast-track the justice process.
The pilot project will begin in select districts of Maharashtra, with recruitment of skilled forensic staff such as scientific officers, assistants, and technicians. Each van will be fitted with facilities for fingerprint analysis, DNA sampling, narcotics testing, and cyber-forensic equipment.
Experts believe that mobile forensic vans can significantly improve conviction rates by ensuring timely and accurate forensic reports. This is especially important in cases involving serious crimes such as sexual assault, drug trafficking, and cybercrime.
The government has emphasized that based on the success of the pilot project, the scheme will be scaled up across the state. The move is expected to modernize policing, enhance public trust in law enforcement, and make Maharashtra a pioneer in adopting mobile forensic solutions in India.
