CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal / Mumbai : Following a recent report highlighting the plight of families without Aadhaar, government authorities in Maharashtra have stepped up efforts to assist tribal families lacking official identity documents. Officials from the Education and Tribal Departments, Aadhaar Seva Kendra, and district administration have collaborated with NGOs to ensure these families can access essential services.
Many tribal families in the state have been excluded from welfare schemes, healthcare, ration supplies, and school admissions, as they do not possess Aadhaar cards or other official documents like birth certificates or bank accounts. Children without identification are unable to enroll in schools or avail scholarships, leaving families invisible to government support systems.
Authorities have assured that efforts will focus on school enrollment for children, Aadhaar registration, creation of birth certificates, and opening bank accounts, helping families gain access to services they were previously denied. The move aims to reduce harassment and repeated rejection at government offices faced by families lacking documentation.
“The absence of official identity has long denied these communities their rights,” said an NGO representative. “This initiative is crucial in making welfare schemes, education, and healthcare accessible to marginalized families.”
Government officials emphasize that while court rulings prevent denial of essential services for lack of Aadhaar, practical challenges remain. The ongoing collaboration between authorities and NGOs seeks to bridge the gap, ensuring tribal families are included in the state’s welfare and development programs.
