CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Mahila Congress Protests in Bhopal Against Satna Incident and Rising Crimes Against Women in Madhya Pradesh
In strong condemnation of the heinous crime against a 2.5-year-old girl in Satna district, and the rising number of rape and assault cases against women, girls, and minors across Madhya Pradesh, the Madhya Pradesh Mahila Congress, under the leadership of its President Vibha Patel, staged a protest near the Pradesh Congress Headquarters in Bhopal.
The protest was aimed at highlighting the state government’s failure to ensure safety and justice for women and children. A large number of Mahila Congress leaders participated, raising slogans against the allegedly anti-women government and trying to “wake up” the Mohan Yadav administration.
Addressing the gathering, Director Vibha Patel stated that incidents of exploitation and rape of women, young girls, and innocent children are on a constant rise. She revealed that nearly 20 horrifying rape cases are being reported daily, reflecting the deteriorating law and order in the state. She accused the administration of emboldening criminals due to weak governance, allowing them to act without fear.
She further said that the Satna incident is a glaring example of the administration’s failure to protect daughters and sisters. Crimes against women are defaming the values of a civil society, spreading fear among women and outrage among the public.
Criticizing Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who also holds the Home Minister portfolio, Patel said he has failed in both roles. She demanded that the Home Ministry be handed over to a capable and responsible person to restore law and order, control rising crimes, and ensure safety and dignity for women and girls.
During the protest, a memorandum addressed to the Governor was submitted to the local police station in-charge, urging immediate steps to curb the growing incidents of sexual violence, especially against minors.
Prominent leaders present at the protest included Praveen Saxena (President, District City Congress Committee), and Mahila Congress leaders Rajlakshmi Nayak, Sheetal Malviya, Tala Devre, Ambika Sharma, Yashoda Pandey, Rasida Mustafa, Chanda Chauhan, Rekha Bhadauria, Rajkumari Kewat, Parvati More, Sakun Rana, and Rajni Dubey, among others.
