Ahead of the second match of the five-match ODI series being played between India and New Zealand, the host team has suffered a major setback. New Zealand’s experienced opening batter Devon Conway has been ruled out of the entire series due to injury. He suffered a head injury after colliding with teammate Matt Henry during training. Tests confirmed he has concussion, a condition caused by a head injury.
New Zealand Cricket officially gave the information on 6 November, saying Conway will no longer be able to take part in the remaining ODI matches against India. Batter Nick Kelly has been included in the squad in his place. Kelly had earlier been selected for the fourth and fifth ODIs of the series, but he will now be available for the remaining matches as well.
Matt Henry was also injured in the incident and had to undergo checks due to suspected concussion. However, New Zealand Cricket has declared him free of concussion. He is available for selection for the second ODI.
The New Zealand team is already dealing with the absence of Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman. Ravindra is out of the entire ODI series because of a shoulder injury, while Chapman is sidelined with a hamstring problem.
India defeated New Zealand by five wickets in the first ODI played in Auckland to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The second match will be played in Wellington on 7 November.
