CNN Central News and Network – ITDC India ePress / ITDC News Bhopal: In the series of innovations at Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication (MCU), during the admission process for the academic session 2026–2027, the recently launched book “Makhan Ke Lal” has become the next important initiative. Alumni who have contributed their memoirs in the book are being regarded as the real heroes for new students based on their struggles and achievements.
Media Head Dr. Pavitra Shrivastava stated that the book “Makhan Ke Lal,” published by the university on the historical context of 200 years of Hindi journalism, presents an overview of the brilliant students who emerged during the university’s 36-year journey. More than 50 students from across the country have shared their experiences. Honouring their struggles and achievements, their stories serve as an inspiration for new students joining upcoming sessions.
He further informed that from the first batch of 1991–1992, media personalities such as Sanjay Salil, Padam Prasad Bhandari, Sanjeev Sharma, Prakash Pant, Reema Diwan Chadha, and Deepak Pagare are being introduced as icons of success. These individuals, while serving in various media organizations, have earned a respected place in society and have worked across the country throughout their careers. Similarly, other alumni from later batches featured in “Makhan Ke Lal” have also been honoured in the same manner. This initiative is also seen as a preparation for an alumni meet to be organized in the upcoming academic session.
Vice-Chancellor Vijay Manohar Tiwari said that surviving in the uncertain world of media has never been easy. The first batch laid the foundation during a time when media had no glamour, no 24-hour news channels existed, and only newspapers and magazines were available, with minimal salaries. Students from subsequent batches continued this tradition by establishing their place in the media industry through hard work and struggle.
He added that “Makhan Ke Lal” has become a career guidebook for new students. A new edition with fresh stories will be released in the next session. He also appealed to former students working in the media to send in their stories.
