CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New Delhi: At the INDIA bloc’s mega rally held at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on November 1, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee launched a sharp political attack on Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Bharatiya Janata Party. She recited a rhyme on the lines of the popular children’s poem “Johnny-Johnny, yes papa” to target the BJP over alleged vote theft and issues linked to democracy.
Speaking from the stage, Mamata Banerjee said, “Gyanesh-Gyanesh, yes papa, vote theft, yes papa, democracy theft, yes papa, looted – BJP papa.” Through her poem, she alleged that the BJP had a role behind irregularities in the election process. Calling Gyanesh Kumar “Vanish Kumar”, she also demanded that he be removed from his post.
In her address, Mamata alleged that more than one crore voters’ names were deleted during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in West Bengal. She claimed that the Trinamool Congress did not lose the election, but was made to lose. According to her, the vote-counting and EVM processes were also influenced. However, these are Mamata Banerjee’s political allegations and require independent verification.
She accused the BJP of influencing the Constitution, democratic rights and electoral institutions, and said her party would continue its struggle on the issue. Mamata appealed to opposition parties to unite and come forward to protect democracy and the constitutional order.
Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Akhilesh Yadav and other opposition leaders were also present at the mega rally. During the rally, the opposition targeted the central government over the Election Commission’s role, the SIR process and alleged vote theft.
