CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: In what appears to be a bid to convey the message that the opposition alliance, INDIA, is strong even after the Lok Sabha polls, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is expected to campaign for Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who is set to enter electoral politics from Kerala’s Wayanad.
Wayanad Lok Sabha bypolls were necessitated after Rahul Gandhi decided to vacate the seat while keeping Rae Bareli, earlier represented by his mother Sonia Gandhi. Congress chose to field Priyanka Gandhi from Wayanad, a seat won by her brother twice.
According to media reports, sources in the Trinamool Congress said Banerjee had not only expressed her willingness to campaign for the Congress leader but had earlier suggested that Priyanka should contest from Varanasi against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The move by the TMC chief also comes a few days after senior Congress leader and former Union finance minister P. Chidambaram’s meeting with her. The two had talked for 30 minutes, in what was described as a “courtesy call.”
Besides, ahead of the Parliament session, starting Monday, Banerjee had also sought better coordination among the opposition members, who together have 232 Lok Sabha seats in the House.
