CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: Mamata taunts ‘Vanish Kumar’, Tejashwi targets Election Commission
New Delhi: At the INDIA bloc’s mega rally held at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on November 1, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Bihar leader Tejashwi Yadav launched sharp political attacks on the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Election Commission. Both leaders raised questions over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and alleged vote theft. Taking a swipe at Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Mamata Banerjee asked, “Vanish Kumar ji, when will you disappear?”
In her address, Mamata Banerjee alleged that voters in West Bengal were being affected through the SIR process. She claimed that the names of more than one crore voters had been removed from the list in the state. She said her party would continue to oppose the process and fight to protect democratic rights. Mamata also alleged irregularities in the election and vote-counting process. These allegations are part of her political statement and require independent verification.
Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav, in his speech, compared electoral irregularities with the Mahabharata. He said that today, at Ramlila Maidan, a Mahabharata was being fought against vote theft. Calling the Chief Election Commissioner a puppet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he questioned the impartiality of the Election Commission and demanded action against him.
Tejashwi alleged that people’s voting rights were being affected through changes in the voter list. He appealed to opposition parties and ordinary citizens to unite and raise their voices on the issue.
National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti also addressed the rally. Opposition leaders raised issues of the Constitution, equal voting rights and accountability of democratic institutions. At the same time, an official response from the Election Commission and the BJP, as well as verification of the facts, remain important in the broader context of this controversy.
