CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New Delhi. Former West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has called for unity among the opposition INDIA alliance over alleged vote theft and electoral irregularities. She appealed to people to join in large numbers the rally scheduled for November 1 at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan. Mamata said that when people’s voting rights are being questioned, remaining silent cannot be an option.

In a message issued on social media, Mamata Banerjee said the fight against vote theft is linked to protecting every Indian’s right to choose their representative. She demanded accountability over alleged electoral irregularities in various states, including West Bengal. According to her, questions are being raised over electronic voting machines (EVMs), voter data, electoral rolls and the vote-counting process.

She appealed to students, youth, women, workers and members of civil society to take part in this campaign. Mamata sent a message of standing with opposition parties to protect democracy and the Constitution.

The INDIA alliance rally is proposed at Ramlila Maidan at 12:30 pm on November 1. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has also appealed to people to join this march. Alliance leaders will present their concerns over alleged irregularities in the electoral process and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list.

Meanwhile, some traders’ organisations in Delhi have demanded that the rally be held after Diwali, citing a possible impact on business and traffic during the festive period. However, for now, the rally remains scheduled for November 1.
