CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: Mumbai. A sensational case of a friend’s killing has come to light in the Mothagaon area of Dombivli West in Maharashtra’s Thane district. During a minor argument while drinking alcohol, 24-year-old Prabhu Karkade allegedly beat his 42-year-old friend Vishal Kadam to death. After the incident, the accused disposed of the body with the help of landlord Sandesh Mhatre. However, after nearly 20 days, the accused himself reached the police and confessed to the crime.

According to police, on October 9, Prabhu Karkade and Vishal Kadam were sitting together and drinking alcohol in a room at Mothagaon. During this, a dispute broke out between them over some issue. As the argument escalated, Prabhu brutally assaulted Vishal. Vishal died on the spot due to serious injuries.

After the killing, a frightened Prabhu informed his landlord Sandesh Mhatre about the incident. According to police, the two together put the body in a sack and threw it at a deserted spot near the creek by Kopar Road at night. The accused then believed he had succeeded in hiding the crime.

After the killing, Prabhu remained under constant mental stress. He has claimed that his dead friend kept appearing in his dreams and that he could not sleep properly for 20 nights. Finally, distressed, he reached the Thane Crime Branch office and surrendered before police. During questioning, he allegedly admitted to the killing and also pointed out the place where the body had been dumped.

On the accused’s indication, police recovered Vishal’s body from near the creek. The main accused, Prabhu Karkade, and landlord Sandesh Mhatre, who allegedly helped dispose of the body, were then arrested. Both were produced before a Kalyan court, which sent them to four days of police custody. Police are now conducting a detailed investigation into the motive behind the killing and the landlord’s role.
