CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Delhi. The central government has appointed senior IAS officer Mandeep K. Bhandari as the new chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education, or CBSE. According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his appointment on September 25.
Mandeep Bhandari is a 2001-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre. Before the appointment, he was serving as principal secretary to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. He has handled several important administrative responsibilities in Jammu and Kashmir, including deputy commissioner Leh, deputy commissioner Jammu and divisional commissioner Jammu. Bhandari is also a medical education-qualified officer. He studied MBBS and has also worked as joint secretary in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in the central government. He has also held the responsibility of chief executive officer of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
CBSE has seen repeated changes in leadership this year. Bhandari will replace Lokhande Prashant Sitaram, who was currently holding the additional charge of board chairman. The appointment comes at a time when questions and complaints had surfaced this year over CBSE’s on-screen evaluation system. The new chairman will be responsible for preparations for the upcoming academic and examination session, along with streamlining the digital evaluation system and overseeing administrative work linked to the examination process.
