CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Students of the Department of Mass Communication at Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, Bhopal, visited the Gyan Teerth Madhavrao Sapre Memorial Newspaper Museum and Research Institute and the Madhya Pradesh Assembly as part of an educational tour. Students from different classes of the Mass Communication Department participated in separate groups during the two-day visit.
The tour began at 11 am at the Madhavrao Sapre Museum. The students viewed rare material related to the history of journalism, old newspapers, periodicals, books and documents. Addressing the students on the occasion, museum founder Padma Shri Vijay Dutt Shridhar said journalism is not only a medium to record the present but also carries the responsibility of preserving society’s memory. He told journalism students to cultivate the habit of reading. An alert mind, he said, is the greatest requirement for a journalist. He added that continuous study and curiosity give journalists the perspective to understand their times and society in depth.
Advising new entrants to journalism, he said young people entering the field should not run after glamour. The real strength of journalism lies in study, facts, sensitivity and responsibility towards society. He said journalists must keep learning and develop the ability to understand events around them.
After this, the students visited the Madhya Pradesh Assembly. Rahul Chandravanshi, co-director of protocol, informed them about the functioning of the House, the legislative process and the role of the Assembly in the democratic system. At the museum located in the Assembly complex, the students also viewed material related to the democratic and political history of Madhya Pradesh.
On the occasion, Prof. Pradeep Daheria, coordinator of the educational tour, said the visit, from the historical memories of journalism at the Madhavrao Sapre Museum to the democratic discourse of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, gave students an opportunity to move beyond the theoretical limits of the classroom and understand journalism, history and democracy directly. Museum director Arvind Shridhar, guest faculty member of the Mass Communication Department Dr. Uditya Singh Sengar, and undergraduate and postgraduate students of the department were present.
