The Group was founded on September 30, 1956, by Ashok Kumar Malhotra with a small bookshop in Jalandhar.
Over the years, MBD Group has expanded into printing, publishing, EdTech, hospitality, real estate, retail, food and beverage, robotics and coding. Education has remained a central part of its journey as the organisation has moved from traditional publishing towards technology-enabled and experiential learning.
Through initiatives such as Love to Learn and Robotics Lab on Wheels, the Group is providing students with exposure to robotics, coding, IoT, automation and emerging technologies. In 2026, it also launched the AASOKA Science Kit initiative, which aims to provide practical science learning to 25,000 students across 400 schools.
MBD Group said its Robotics Lab on Wheels programme aims to reach 1,000 schools and one lakh students over the next five years. Its AI-STEAM initiatives are also designed to introduce students to artificial intelligence and future-ready learning.
The Group recently organised the MBD AI-STEAM Lab Championship at MBD House, bringing together students from 16 schools to develop technology-based solutions to real-world challenges. The event carried a prize pool of ₹3.25 lakh and focused on hands-on learning and problem-solving.
Alongside education, MBD Group has continued its CSR initiatives through My Best Deeds and the Ashok Malhotra Charitable Trust, supporting areas including girl-child education, special-needs empowerment, disaster relief, environmental conservation and underserved communities. As it enters its eighth decade, the Group said it remains focused on connecting education, technology, innovation and community development.
