CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The academic session 2025–26 of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, Bhopal, commenced in a dignified atmosphere. On this occasion, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav was present as the Chief Guest, while the keynote address was delivered by renowned poet and orator Kumar Vishwas. The program was also attended by the university’s Vice-Chancellor Vijay Manohar Tiwari, Minister Krishna Gaur, Mayor Malti Rai, MLAs, senior journalists, and members of the university community.

In his address, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said that journalism plays an important role in the functioning of society. He noted that even from the times of Narada and the Ramayana, the welfare-oriented tradition of journalism can be traced. The Chief Minister emphasized that MCU has earned national recognition since its inception, and its alumni have set benchmarks in the media world. On this occasion, he unveiled a 12-foot-high statue of Makhanlal Chaturvedi and also participated in a tree plantation drive on the campus.

Dr. Kumar Vishwas said that even today, society places its trust in the printed and spoken word. The greatest foundation of journalism, he stressed, is its credibility. He stated that it is the duty of journalists to present the truth impartially. Addressing the youth, Kumar Vishwas urged them to take pride in India’s knowledge traditions and culture while keeping public welfare at the forefront of journalism.

Senior editor N. Raghuraman held an interactive session on soft skills, while veteran filmmaker Ashish Kulkarni discussed the growing influence of technology and AI in the media. University alumnae also shared their experiences. Vice-Chancellor Vijay Manohar Tiwari encouraged students to engage in continuous learning and embrace new opportunities. He announced that the university will soon launch new courses on subjects such as AI, deepfake, and cybersecurity.

On this occasion, a gallery displaying historic headlines from the country’s leading newspapers was also established on the university campus. The event was conducted in various sessions by professors and senior faculty members, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Registrar Dr. P. Shashikala.
