CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Regarding the continuous untimely deaths of newborns and women due to negligence at Bundelkhand Medical College, the merger of the district hospital with the medical college, and the raising of the height of Rajghat Dam, Rajkumar Pachauri, city district Congress president, along with a Congress delegation, met with Divisional Commissioner Virendra Rawat and submitted a memorandum.
During the meeting, Pachauri, accompanied by senior Congress leaders, accused the doctors at the medical college of negligence in treating poor and needy patients, thereby playing with their lives. He alleged that due to medical negligence at BMC, many pregnant women and newborns have died recently. Instead of handing over the bodies to their families, doctors kept them on ventilators, which led to disputes, during which the medical college staff assaulted the grieving families, an unfortunate incident. He further accused the doctors of being involved in private practices, advising patients admitted to the medical college to seek treatment at private institutions, which is not only unethical but also illegal. He called for an end to such private practices so that the doctors can focus on patients admitted to the medical college.
Former Municipal Corporation President Triloki Nath Katare raised objections during the discussion with Commissioner Virendra Rawat regarding the Municipal Corporation’s plan to build a new dam for drinking water supply. He highlighted the need to raise the height of Rajghat Dam and install hydraulic gates with the ₹135 crore sanctioned by former Chief Minister Kamal Nath during the Congress government. Katare argued that there is no need for a new dam for the next 50 years, and the current plan is merely a corrupt scheme by the Municipal Corporation, from which the public will benefit only after 10 to 20 years, while the city will continue to face a severe water crisis.
Former Minister Surendra Chaudhary stated that the district hospital should not be dissolved and suggested constructing a new hospital at another location in Sagar city. Former MLA Sunil Jain condemned the negligence of doctors at Bundelkhand Medical College, calling it a serious offense. The Congress delegation expressed strong outrage over the widespread negligence, corruption, and commission-seeking practices at the medical college, which have caused significant hardship for the general public and patients. They also raised concerns about the increasing incidents of vehicle theft.
