In Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, the farmers’ agitation over the demand for pending payment continued for the third consecutive day. The protesting farmers locked both main gates of the Meerut Development Authority (MDA). The farmers said their payment of Rs 2.81 crore has been pending for a long time, but despite repeated demands, the problem has not been resolved.

The farmers sitting on dharna alleged that the department concerned has been continuously delaying the payment. Angered by this, the farmers shut both entry gates of the authority office to register their protest. During the demonstration, they demanded early payment of the outstanding amount.

The farmers said the agitation would continue until concrete action is taken on their demands. On the third day too, farmers remained present at the protest site and demanded that officials hold talks and find a solution to the problem.

Meanwhile, the locking of the gates created a situation in which office work and movement at the authority could be affected. All eyes are now on the talks between the administration and the farmers.
