CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Famous Bangladeshi model and Miss Earth Bangladesh 2020 winner Meghna Alam has been sentenced to 30 days in jail. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifullah issued the order late Thursday night around 10:30 PM under the Preventive Detention Act.
According to a report by the Dhaka Tribune, court sources confirmed the development. The sources stated that Meghna Alam was presented before the court by the Detective Branch (DB) police at approximately 10:30 PM. The court approved the DB’s petition and issued the detention order.
The order stated that in the interest of public safety and law and order, Meghna Alam will be held under Special Powers granted by the Special Powers Act, 1974, for a period of 30 days. She is reportedly being taken to Kashimpur Jail.
It was reported that on Wednesday evening, Meghna was live-streaming on Facebook. During the stream, Meghna alleged that individuals claiming to be police officers broke into her home. The livestream, which lasted more than 12 minutes, was suddenly cut off and later removed.
It’s important to note that under Bangladesh’s Preventive Detention Act, the government can detain an individual without formal court proceedings, typically in the interest of national security or public order.
