CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Bhopal: On the occasion of Menstrual Hygiene Day, awareness programmes were organised at health institutions under the theme “Period Friendly World.” Information was provided on removing misconceptions related to menstruation and maintaining hygiene and health during this period. During counselling and awareness sessions held at health centres, adolescent girls were informed in detail about physical changes. Adolescent girls and women were also screened for anaemia and informed about the benefits of taking iron and folic acid, as well as the use and disposal of sanitary pads.

Counselling and quiz sessions on menstrual hygiene were organised at the District Hospital, civil hospitals and community health centres. During these programmes, outpatient and admitted women were informed about personal and menstrual hygiene, and were told in detail about the correct use and disposal of sanitary pads.

At Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, information was given about the physical, mental and emotional changes that occur in adolescent girls. Adolescent girls were also advised to use pads or clean, dry cloth and to change them every four to six hours.

Chief Medical and Health Officer, Bhopal, Manish Sharma said that it is essential to maintain cleanliness during menstruation. After use, napkins should be wrapped in paper and thrown into dustbins that are emptied daily. He said that to maintain haemoglobin levels in adolescent girls, iron tablets should be taken regularly through ASHA or Anganwadi workers.
