CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A “Garbh Sanskar” program was organized at Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC). The objective of the program was to provide newly married couples and pregnant women with important information related to nurturing a healthy and well-cultured child, prenatal care, mental and physical health during pregnancy, and positive parenting.

Dr. Kakoli Roy, Clinical Psychologist and Consultant, and Dr. Shailja Trivedi, Yoga and Diet Expert, were present as distinguished speakers. The program was chaired by Dr. Manisha Srivastava, In-charge Director of BMHRC. Also present were Dr. Roma Rastogi, Coordinator of Health Centers; Chief Medical Officer Dr. Rachita Chansauriya; and In-charge Nursing Superintendent Aji Koshy. The event was anchored by Dr. Nehal Shah.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Kakoli Roy stated that most people view health only from a physical perspective, whereas true health is a balance of physical, mental, and social well-being. She noted that increasing use of digital media has reduced communication, making it difficult for people to express their emotions openly, which can lead to mental health issues.

She emphasized that special attention must be given to mental health during sensitive phases like pregnancy. She explained that many young people today struggle to balance career and family life, making it important to plan pregnancy at the right time. Dr. Roy added that mood swings, anxiety, and emotional fluctuations are natural during pregnancy, but they can also affect the unborn child. Therefore, maintaining a positive environment, listening to good music, reading inspirational literature, and following a balanced routine is essential.

Highlighting the role of family, especially the spouse, she stressed the importance of “non-judgmental listening.” She said that listening to a pregnant woman without judgment and providing emotional support is extremely important. Dr. Roy also raised awareness about postpartum depression, anxiety, and psychosis, noting that proper mental care during pregnancy can reduce the likelihood of these issues.

During the program, Dr. Shailja Trivedi elaborated on the importance of yoga, pranayama, and a balanced diet during pregnancy. She said that regular and safe yoga practice, done under medical guidance, helps strengthen the body, boost confidence, and maintain mental balance.

Dr. Trivedi advised prioritizing traditional, nutritious, and seasonal foods during pregnancy. She highlighted that home-cooked meals, adequate hydration, protein-rich diets, and natural foods are highly beneficial for both mother and child. She also advised avoiding junk food, excessively fried items, and overconsumption of tea and coffee.

Presiding over the event, Dr. Manisha Srivastava said that “Garbh Sanskar” is an integral part of India’s cultural heritage. Referring to the example of Abhimanyu, she explained that learning and values imparted during pregnancy can influence a child’s development.

Dr. Srivastava emphasized that such programs are essential for raising awareness in society. BMHRC regularly organizes such initiatives to help build a healthy, cultured, and aware new generation.

A large number of participants attended the program enthusiastically and gained valuable insights from the experts.
