CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A lecture and interactive programme on mental health, suicide prevention and the importance of seeking help in times of need was organised jointly by the state’s prestigious NAAC A+ grade Saty Sai Women’s College, Saty Sai Law College and the Family Planning Association, Bhopal.

The objective of the programme was to sensitise students and volunteers present about mental health and to convey the message that in difficult situations in life, it is extremely important to speak openly and seek timely help instead of remaining silent.

The programme began with floral tributes before the portraits of Maa Saraswati and Swami Vivekananda, the inspirational figure of the National Service Scheme.

Chief guest Jagdish Parsai, branch manager of the Family Planning Association, Bhopal, said in his address that mental health is as important as physical health, but hesitation and silence around it still persist in society. He told students that in times of stress, depression or negative thoughts, they should communicate with family, friends, teachers or experts instead of struggling alone. Through the interaction, students also shared their views and discussed ways to remove misconceptions related to mental health.

As part of the initiative, a special health camp was also organised with the support of the Family Planning Association, Bhopal. Free health check-up facilities were arranged for students and volunteers. Tests including thyroid test, blood sugar test, haemoglobin test, blood pressure test and blood group test were made available at the camp. A large number of faculty members, students and staff availed themselves of the facility.

On this occasion, college director Dr Pratibha Singh, principal Renu Mishra, Saty Sai Law College law principal Anju Bajpai, representatives and members from the Family Planning Association, Bhopal, National Service Scheme programme officer of the college Manisha Tripathi, faculty members, students and NSS core group volunteers Krishna Vishwakarma, Muskan Ashware, Anushka, Manvi and Kashish were present. The programme was conducted by volunteer Akanksha.
