CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A Mentor-Mentee program was organized at BMHRC. The program has been launched to address the challenges faced by students studying at BMHRC. Under this initiative, every student pursuing MD, MS, DM, or MCh in various departments of the institute has been assigned a faculty member as their mentor. Separate mentors have also been assigned for students of the Nursing and Paramedical College.

The acting Director of the institute, Manisha Srivastava, addressed all the mentors and mentees present in the auditorium, saying that “There are many teachers, but few mentors. A mentor is someone who identifies and nurtures the positive potential in their mentee, helping to bring out their best qualities. Understanding the mentee’s perspective, a mentor guides them on the right path. Mutual respect between mentor and mentee is essential, and both should develop a relationship of understanding. Juniors should respect their seniors while maintaining the dignity of their position, and if a junior faces any difficulty, they should discuss it with their senior rather than trying to solve it alone.”

Dr. Manisha further said, “Students today are fortunate to have mentors available for guidance. Earlier, mentorship was not common. A true mentor acts as a guide and motivator, inspiring their mentees to progress and succeed in the future.”

It is noteworthy that the institute conducts PG and super-specialty courses in departments such as Anesthesiology, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, and Neurosurgery, along with programs in the Nursing and Paramedical College. The Mentor-Mentee program was initiated to provide emotional support and create a home-like environment for students enrolled in these courses. Students can share any problem with their mentors and receive guidance and assistance.

On this occasion, the institute’s Dean (Academic), Dr. Surabhi Sahay, said, “Student life comes with many challenges. With a mentor’s support and guidance, many problems faced by mentees can be addressed. The Mentor-Mentee program is a structured system in which an experienced person (mentor) provides guidance, advice, and support to a less experienced person (mentee). The purpose of this program is to assist the mentee in their academic, professional, and personal development, while also establishing a strong relationship between mentor and mentee. Mentorship can cover a wide range of areas, from academic guidance to career planning, personal issues, and enhancement of employability.”
