CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Around 4,200 undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students received their degrees at the 36th Convocation of Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute in Chennai on Wednesday. The convocation brought together students from multiple academic disciplines, marking an important milestone for the graduating batches.

Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar presented medals and degrees to students who secured first rank in their respective disciplines. The ceremony was attended by university Chancellor A.C. Shanmugam, President A.C.S. Arun Kumar and A. Ravikumar, Secretary of ACS Medical College and Hospital.

Degrees were awarded across areas including Engineering and Technology, Humanities and Sciences, Arts and Commerce, Management Studies, Computer Applications, Education and doctoral programmes. The ceremony recognised students completing undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD programmes.

Addressing the graduating students, Governor Arlekar said education should extend beyond obtaining a degree and emphasised the importance of developing character and using knowledge for the benefit of society. He said educational institutions should help students develop wisdom and understand society and people.

The Governor also spoke about the responsibilities of young people and the role of education in shaping their approach towards society and the country. His address focused on character-building and the broader purpose of education.

The convocation marked the completion of academic programmes for nearly 4,200 students and provided an opportunity to recognise academic achievement across different disciplines. Faculty members, university officials and students participated in the ceremony.
