CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Delhi. The case of an Indian software developer has drawn attention amid Microsoft’s voluntary exit plan. The employee claimed that just three months after joining the company, he received an offer to leave the job voluntarily. After receiving the email, the employee shared his concern on Reddit and sought advice from others. The matter has come to light at a time when Microsoft has launched a voluntary exit plan for eligible employees in four countries, including India.

Shared his experience on Reddit: According to an India Today report, the developer, who posted under the name “clock-maker365” on the “DevelopersIndia” subreddit, said he had joined Microsoft only three months earlier. According to the employee, he was still taking time to understand the company’s codebase and work processes. In this situation, receiving an exit offer left him worried.

The employee expressed concern that if he did not accept the offer, he could face layoffs in the future. However, this was his personal apprehension. There has been no confirmation from the company that this employee would be removed from the job. According to the report, the original post made on Reddit was later deleted.

Plan for 60,000 employees: Microsoft has started a Voluntary Exit Offer (VEO) for eligible employees in India, the US, the UK and Canada. According to reports, around 60,000 employees may come under the scope of this plan. This does not mean that all employees will leave the company or that all employees will receive the offer. The plan is for eligible employees at Microsoft’s internal grade level 70 and below in selected organisations. Employees have been given the option to accept or decline the offer. In India, the last date for eligible employees to take a decision has been reported as December 1.

Does getting the offer mean layoffs are certain? There is a difference between a voluntary exit plan and mandatory layoffs. Under this plan, eligible employees can choose to leave the company with financial support and career transition assistance. Merely receiving an exit offer does not prove that an employee will later be removed from the job. Microsoft has said the plan will be implemented according to the needs and priorities of different business units. At present, the company has not clarified how many employees in India are eligible for the plan and how many will accept it.
