CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: On the eleventh day of the ongoing service fortnight under the “Healthy Women, Empowered Families” campaign at Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC), the State Minister of Public Health and Family Welfare, Mr. Narendra Shivaji Patel, participated in the program. He planted saplings in the campus and reviewed the ongoing health check-up camps.

Minister Patel inaugurated the ECT machine in the Department of Psychiatry and the DLCO machine in the Department of Pulmonary Medicine. He also flagged off a health rally within the campus.

Minister Narendra Shivaji Patel stated that the BMHRC team has done excellent work under the “Healthy Women, Empowered Families” campaign. “Our goal is to make India a developed nation by 2047. India can only progress if women are empowered, and only empowered women can lead to empowered families. Strong families will make India strong. BMHRC is reaching new milestones,” he added.

In her address, In-charge Director Dr. Manisha Srivastava mentioned that BMHRC’s health centers are providing services similar to Mohalla Clinics. She highlighted efforts in tribal areas to eradicate sickle cell anemia and initiatives for latent TB screening. She further added that BMHRC is contributing to medical education by continuously adding new courses and actively participating in national programs like cervical cancer prevention, TB elimination, sickle cell and anemia eradication. A state-of-the-art dialysis center is also being developed. “BMHRC will always support the state government in public welfare,” she added.

Benefits of the ECT Machine:

The ECT machine is used to treat severe mental illnesses such as major depression, bipolar disorder, and catatonia. Electrodes are placed on the patient’s head, and a brief electric current is passed through the brain, inducing a minor seizure. This alters brain chemistry, helping improve symptoms. It is highly effective for patients who do not respond sufficiently to medication.

DLCO Machine for Pulmonary Diseases:

The DLCO machine (Diffusing Capacity of the Lungs for Carbon Monoxide) measures how efficiently the lungs exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide. It is extremely useful in diagnosing and managing pulmonary fibrosis, interstitial lung disease (ILD), and other respiratory conditions.

Awareness Camps on Menstrual Hygiene and Autism:

Community awareness camps, seminars, and panel discussions were organized in the institute auditorium. Dr. Alka Dubey spoke on menstrual hygiene and proper nutrition for adolescent girls. Ms. Poonam Bichpuriya Gaur discussed the role of mothers and families in supporting children with autism, ADHD, and developmental delays. Dr. Rachita Chansoria and Dr. Asma Nazia shared information on obesity, gynecological issues, and cancer. Ultrasound check-ups were also conducted for female patients during the event.

Walkathon at Health Centers:

As part of the “Healthy Women, Empowered Families” campaign, health rallies and walkathons were organized at health centers with the theme “Less Oil, Less Sugar, More Greenery.” Awareness was also raised about the importance of HPV vaccination. Women and youth actively participated, promoting lifestyle improvements through balanced diet and regular exercise.
