CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Under the guidance of the Government of India, the 21st Livestock Census 2024 has commenced across Madhya Pradesh, conducted by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying. Minister of State for Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Independent Charge, Lakhan Patel, has appealed to all livestock owners in the state to provide accurate information when officials from the Animal Husbandry Department visit for livestock counting. He urged that no household or livestock should be left out of the census and encouraged everyone to act with the sentiment that “My Animals, My Responsibility.” This is a task of national importance, and everyone should fully cooperate.

Minister Patel informed that livestock will be counted in 55 districts, covering a total of 55,902 villages and 7,846 urban wards. So far, survey work has commenced in 7,077 villages/urban wards, and it will soon begin in the remaining areas. A total of 5,558 enumerators and 970 supervisors are engaged in conducting the census in the state.

Notably, according to the 2019 Livestock Census, Madhya Pradesh had over 6 crore animals, placing it third in the country in terms of livestock population.
