CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: “A good nation begins with our healthy bodies, and we ourselves are the unit that keeps the nation healthy,” Madhya Pradesh Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Vishwas Kailash Sarang said while addressing participants at the dignified Yogotsav 2026 programme. He said the presence of such a large number of girl students for yoga early in the morning reflects growing interest in yoga, especially among women.

Mayor Malti Rai, who attended as a special guest, said yoga is one of the best means for women to maintain good health. She said women carry a double responsibility and, if they regularly practise yoga, meditation and pranayama, they are able to fulfil their duties well. At the same programme, Madhya Pradesh Yoga Commission Chairman Dr. Radyavendra Sharma said the commission is working to promote yoga and help make people disease-free.

MLA Bhagwandas Sabnani, who was also present as a special guest, said yoga is a remedy for every illness. He said that if people practise yoga daily, they can get relief from many diseases, and added that yoga is the foundation of Indian culture, which is now being adopted by the entire world.

Prof. Captain Singh Solanki, former Governor of Haryana, who chaired the programme, said yoga has been needed from the very beginning. He said a healthy India is essential for a strong India, and that women’s contribution is necessary to build a strong nation.

Delivering the welcome address, college principal Prof. (Dr.) Ankesh Singh said the International Day of Yoga is observed across the world every year on June 21. He said yoga is an invaluable heritage of Indian culture that not only strengthens physical health but also plays an important role in establishing mental and spiritual balance.

To take yoga to the masses and increase awareness about it, Sant Hirdaram Medical College organised a special awareness programme at Boat Club, Bhopal. The main objective of the event was to make citizens aware of the importance of yoga, its health benefits and the need to adopt it in daily life. Through the programme, those present were urged to make yoga an integral part of their routine and contribute to building a healthy society.

It was stated that more than 300 participants from Bhopal city took part in the programme. The college’s female students prepared enthusiastically for the event.

The Common Yoga Protocol prescribed by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, was conducted, with announcements by college professor Dr. Saraswati Tevani. A musical yoga presentation was also made and received wide appreciation. Children, youth, women and elderly people participated in large numbers. Attractive T-shirts and healthy refreshments were also distributed as gifts to all participants.
