CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New Delhi. A liquor smuggling case in Delhi has raised serious questions about the methods used by smugglers and the use of minors. According to a report, a 14-year-old child was being made to smuggle liquor after being lured with just Rs 300. The case is said to involve the recovery of 47 cartons of liquor.
It is being said that the child was used in the smuggling network because of his young age, so that the illegal transportation of liquor could avoid police attention. In such cases, smugglers try to draw children from economically weaker families into their illegal trade by offering small amounts of money.
Cases of illegal liquor being brought into Delhi and sold from neighbouring states, including Haryana, have surfaced earlier as well. Even when liquor cartons carry markings showing they are meant for sale in another state, attempts are made to push them into Delhi. In such cases, along with police action, identifying the main accused supplying the liquor and the entire network is also important.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for strict action against gangs that push children into crime. In cases where minors are used for smuggling, action should not remain limited only to the child; it is necessary to reach the people who lured them and the source of the liquor.
