CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: In Madhya Pradesh, the Tool Purchase Grant Scheme operated by the Madhya Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board is emerging as an effective means of empowering construction workers. Under this scheme, registered workers receive a grant of 10% or up to ₹5,000 through bank loans for purchasing tools related to their work.
In Vidisha, worker Devendra Sharma received financial assistance of ₹5,000 under this scheme for tool purchases. This support has increased his work efficiency and opened up new income opportunities. This example demonstrates that the scheme not only provides financial assistance but also brings a positive change in the living standards of workers.
The main objective of the scheme is to connect construction workers with modern tools and link them to the formal banking system, thereby making them financially empowered. To qualify, workers must be registered, under 60 years of age, and purchase tools relevant to their work area.
The application process has been made simple and accessible. Applications can be submitted through Gram Panchayats in rural areas and Urban Local Bodies in cities, allowing maximum eligible workers to benefit. Clear eligibility criteria are set under the scheme, including valid registration, age limit, one-time lifetime benefit, and work relevance. These conditions ensure the fair distribution of resources.
The Tool Purchase Grant Scheme is emerging as a key initiative to make workers self-reliant, enhance productivity, and promote economic empowerment.
