CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: CNN Central News and Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News / Agencies, Bhopal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated scientists and engineers of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for achieving an important milestone in strengthening India’s indigenous satellite navigation system. ISRO successfully launched the next-generation navigation satellite NVS-03 through the GSLV-F18 rocket on October 30, 2026. The Prime Minister said the mission is an important step towards advancing India’s technological self-reliance and providing better navigation services to citizens.

In his message on the social media platform X, Modi said the advanced capabilities of NVS-03 would further strengthen India’s indigenous navigation system, NavIC. Praising the hard work, dedication and technical skill of space scientists, he said their achievements are making the country proud.

GSLV-F18 set a new record. NVS-03 was launched from the second launch pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. The satellite, weighing about 2,250 kg, was successfully placed by the GSLV-F18 rocket into the designated geosynchronous transfer orbit. This was the 20th flight of India’s GSLV rocket. The gap between two consecutive GSLV missions was only 56 days, which is said to be the shortest so far for this rocket.

NavIC capabilities will expand. NVS-03 is the third satellite in ISRO’s second-generation navigation satellite series. It carries an indigenous atomic clock along with other atomic clocks. In addition, the L1 navigation signal facility has been added, which will work with the already available L5 and S-band signals. India’s NavIC system has been developed to provide navigation services across the country’s entire landmass and up to about 1,500 km beyond its borders. It is expected to benefit sectors such as transport, aviation, maritime activities, disaster management and precision agriculture. According to ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan, this launch has brought the NavIC system back to the position of having four satellites with minimum operational capability.
