CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today, October 15, 2026, inaugurate and dedicate to the nation five major development projects worth about Rs 3,350 crore in the Union Territory of Ladakh. The programme will be held through video conferencing at around 12:30 p.m. The projects are aimed at strengthening road and air connectivity in the region, improving the energy system, conserving ancient cultural heritage and promoting water security.

The projects include a new passenger terminal at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh. Built at a cost of about Rs 640 crore, the terminal is spread over 23,800 square metres. It has been designed to handle the movement of 35 lakh passengers annually. Along with modern passenger facilities, it uses a geothermal energy system, which will help improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

The Prime Minister will also dedicate the Nimmu-Padum-Darcha road to the nation. Built by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), the nearly 298-km road connects Nimmu in Leh with Darcha in Himachal Pradesh through the Zanskar Valley. The route will provide an alternative access to Ladakh in addition to the Srinagar-Leh and Manali-Leh highways. It will strengthen military movement and logistics, while also helping residents of Zanskar access health care, education, markets and other essential services.

In the energy sector, the 9 MW Hanu small hydroelectric project and the 66 kV double-circuit Dah-Hanu-Khaltsi transmission line will be inaugurated. These are expected to help improve the reliability of power supply and enable better use of the region’s hydropower potential. India’s first petroglyph conservation park will also be launched at Sindhu Ghat in Leh to preserve Ladakh’s ancient rock art and archaeological heritage. The park will focus on conserving figures carved on ancient rocks and historical markings, while also raising public awareness.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate 40 water bodies developed in 40 villages under Project Him Sarovar. The initiative aims to reduce the seasonal gap between water availability and demand. It could support irrigation, agriculture and rural livelihoods. The five projects are planned to strengthen infrastructure, connectivity, energy supply, cultural conservation and water management in Ladakh.
