CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A humorous remark by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav on the Ladli Behna scheme has become a topic of discussion.
At Bundeli Samagam-2026, held at Ravindra Bhavan in Bhopal, Chhatarpur content creator Binnu Rani asked the Chief Minister about the government’s future plans for daughters. In response, Mohan Yadav smiled and said, “Ladli Behna itself has proved very expensive.”
The Chief Minister said in a light-hearted manner that when he became Chief Minister, he had not realised that the financial responsibility of the Ladli Behna scheme would be so large. Calling it an “inside matter” during the programme, he said that as soon as he became Chief Minister, he had to face this heavy responsibility. People present at the event burst into laughter after his reply.
Mohan Yadav also said the government would not step back on matters concerning women. He said the scheme had started with monthly assistance of Rs 1,000 and eligible women are now being given Rs 1,500 per month. In a joking remark to Binnu Rani, he said she was still too young for the scheme and would be able to avail its benefit when she grows older and becomes eligible.
The Ladli Behna scheme is among Madhya Pradesh’s major women-centric schemes. Under it, eligible women are given financial assistance every month. After the Chief Minister’s comment, political reactions have also emerged over the statement.
