CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal : Chief Minister Mohan Yadav stated that self-reliant gaushalas (cow shelters) can make a significant contribution to the state’s economy. Gaushalas can generate wealth by utilizing waste products like cow dung and cow urine. To develop self-reliant gaushalas, arrangements should be made for the sale of products made from cow dung, cow urine, and other materials, including dairy products. Additionally, available space in gaushalas should be used for electricity generation through solar energy.

Local breeds of cattle should be promoted in different regions of the state in accordance with the local environment. Religious institutions and donors should be involved in the management of gaushalas. Currently, the number of veterinarians in proportion to livestock is insufficient. To improve cattle management and increase milk production, it is essential to increase the number of veterinarians. Necessary steps should be taken in this direction.

Chief Minister Yadav issued these directives during a meeting of the Madhya Pradesh Gau Sanvardhan Board at the state secretariat. Minister of State for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development (Independent Charge) Lakhan Patel, Chief Secretary Anurag Jain, and other officials were present.

The Chief Minister also emphasized promoting indigenous cattle breeds such as Gir, Sahiwal, Malvi, and Nagauri in the state, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. Innovations should be made to enhance cattle rearing activities in tribal areas. Coordinated efforts in animal husbandry, agriculture, horticulture, and renewable energy will increase farmers’ incomes and help Madhya Pradesh become a leading state in milk production in the country.

The meeting was informed that the Gau Sanvardhan Board transfers funds directly from the state to the bank accounts of gaushala committees. Following the establishment of 937 new gaushalas, registration has been completed, providing shelter to 110,000 cattle. During 2024–25, biogas-cum-organic fertilizer plants were set up in Vidisha, Dewas, Agar-Malwa, Gwalior, Damoh, Satna, and Rewa. The Municipal Corporations of Gwalior, Indore, and Ujjain have started operating large gaushalas, and the establishment of gaushalas is ongoing in Bhopal and Jabalpur. The meeting also reviewed the progress of the policy for establishing self-reliant gaushalas.
