CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Precaution is the best protection for health during the monsoon season. With this in mind, AIIMS Bhopal, under the guidance of Executive Director Prof. Ajay Singh, is working to raise awareness among citizens. Due to high humidity, dirty water, and an increase in mosquitoes during this season, the risk of waterborne and infectious diseases significantly increases. Diseases like diarrhea, typhoid, cholera, malaria, dengue, viral fever, and skin infections typically spread rapidly during this period.

The institute has urged citizens to remain vigilant and adopt a few basic preventive measures. In this regard, Prof. Ajay Singh said, “We all must pay special attention to hand hygiene to protect children and families from diseases like diarrhea. A little alertness, timely caution, and awareness about cleanliness are the most effective ways to prevent illness during this season.”

The expert team at AIIMS Bhopal highlighted the importance of hand hygiene at key times — such as after using the toilet, before preparing or eating food, after cleaning a child’s stool, before feeding a child, and after touching garbage or animals.

In addition, during the monsoon, drinking clean water is crucial. Boiled or filtered water should be consumed to help prevent diarrhea, typhoid, and other stomach-related illnesses. Citizens should ensure that water does not accumulate around their homes, as it becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes that spread malaria and dengue. Regular cleaning of coolers, flowerpots, tires, and water tanks is essential.

Children and the elderly require special care as their immune systems are relatively weaker. They should be given a balanced and nutritious diet and be kept away from crowded or potentially infected areas. Avoid wearing damp clothes and keep the skin dry, as moisture can lead to fungal infections. Only consume fresh, home-cooked, and hot food; avoid eating food sold in open areas.

If anyone experiences symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, skin rashes, or any other unusual signs, they should consult a doctor immediately and avoid self-medication.
