CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain a serious health challenge in India. According to a report, nearly 27 percent of all deaths in the country are linked to diseases of the heart and blood vessels. During the monsoon, changes in weather, infections, humidity and disruptions to daily routine can create additional risks for heart patients.

Heart patients should be cautious of these seven risks during the monsoon:

1. Sudden changes in weather: Fluctuations in temperature and humidity can put additional pressure on blood pressure and the heart.

2. Risk of infections: Viral and bacterial infections can increase during the monsoon, adding extra stress for heart patients.

3. Reduced physical activity: Continuous rain can disrupt walking or exercise routines, making it difficult to keep weight and blood pressure under control.

4. Unhealthy eating habits: Consumption of fried food and food high in salt may increase during the rainy season, which can be harmful for heart patients.

5. Dehydration: Despite humidity, not drinking enough water can cause dehydration and affect health.

6. Neglecting medicines: Not taking medicines on time because of changes in weather or daily routine can increase risks for heart patients.

7. Stress and lack of sleep: Continuous rain, staying confined indoors and changes in routine can increase stress and sleep-related problems.

Heart patients should focus on taking medicines regularly during the monsoon, eating a balanced diet, drinking enough water and exercising as advised by their doctor. If serious symptoms such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, extreme weakness or sudden sweating appear, medical help should be sought immediately.
