Monsoon slows in MP as Bihar flood crisis worsens further

CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: After continuous rainfall in Madhya Pradesh, monsoon activity has now begun to ease, while in neighbouring Bihar the flood crisis remains severe because of overflowing rivers.

According to the Meteorological Department, rainfall in Madhya Pradesh is currently in a break-like phase, although a change in weather is likely from September 9. Light to moderate rain may continue in some parts of the state.

On the other hand, the flood spread in Bihar is steadily widening as water levels rise in several major rivers, including the Ganga. According to the latest reports, more than 34 lakh people in 13 districts of the state have been affected by floods. With the Ganga flowing above the danger mark at several places, the situation in low-lying areas remains worrying.

The Meteorological Department has forecast rain in several parts of Bihar on September 9 and 10. This could further increase difficulties in flood-affected areas. Relief and rescue operations are continuing from the administration’s side, while people have been advised to stay away from rivers and waterlogged areas.
