CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: To ensure the holistic development of children studying in classes 6 to 8 in the state, the School Education Department has decided to organize various activities on “Bagless Day.” On this day, apart from studies, various cultural, literary, and practical activities will be conducted among the children. In this regard, the State Education Center has issued instructions to district education officers and district project coordinators. The National Education Policy-2020 provides that to familiarize school-going children with 21st-century skills, a “Bagless Day” should be organized at least one Saturday per month for students of classes 6 to 8. On these days, students will be given knowledge of practical skills.
School principals and teachers have also been asked to discuss and prepare a calendar of activities for the Bagless Day. They have been instructed to send information about the activities along with “HD geo-tagged photographs” to the State Education Center’s email ID: rsk.curriculum@gmail.com. The purpose of the Bagless Day is to prepare students as successful, innovative, and responsible citizens. Additionally, it aims to develop scientific temperament, evidence-based thinking, and creativity among students. Key focuses include fostering communication, expression of ideas, health and nutrition, a spirit of sportsmanship and cooperation, leadership qualities, Indian knowledge traditions, and environmental consciousness.
Activities to be Conducted on Bagless Day
The State Education Center has also issued guidelines regarding activities to be conducted on the Bagless Day. In Art and Craft, key activities include drawing, painting, making clay toys, masks, doll-making, and creating items from waste materials. Literary and cultural activities involve folk songs and dances, short plays, poetry recitation, and story writing. To provide knowledge of modern farming methods, information on polyfarming, organic farming, medicinal plants, and modern agricultural equipment will be given. Field trips will also be organized. Children will learn about historical sites and small-scale industries like beekeeping, poultry, and fish farming. Visits to local banks, police stations, hospitals, and grain markets will be arranged. Children will also visit units like handlooms and toy-making workshops. Along with this, they will receive knowledge of science, technology, and the environment, and participate in sports activities.
