CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: AIIMS Bhopal Achieves Milestone in Cancer Research: Study on Moringa Oleifera and Chemotherapy Combination in Breast Cancer Treatment

Under the leadership of Executive Director Ajay Singh, AIIMS Bhopal has achieved a significant milestone in cancer research. Neha Masarkar, a PhD scholar from the Department of Biochemistry, presented her thesis titled “Effect of Bioactive Compounds of Moringa Oleifera in Combination with Conventional Chemotherapy Agents Against Breast Cancer.”

Highlighting the importance of this research, Director Singh stated that Neha’s study not only opens new directions in cancer treatment but also reflects AIIMS Bhopal’s commitment to scientific innovation and progress. He emphasized that the combination of natural compounds with conventional treatments represents a significant step toward making cancer therapies safer and more effective, ultimately improving the lives of cancer patients.

Research Highlights

Neha Masarkar’s study explores new possibilities in breast cancer treatment. While traditional chemotherapy remains an effective method, its side effects, toxicity, and drug resistance pose challenges in the treatment process. To address these issues, Masarkar investigated the synergy between bioactive compounds of Moringa Oleifera (drumstick tree) and conventional chemotherapy agents.

Through various in-vitro experiments, the study found that Moringa’s bioactive compounds enhanced the effectiveness of chemotherapy by increasing cancer cell death rates while reducing side effects such as immune suppression and toxicity. The results suggest that combining Moringa compounds with chemotherapy agents can make cancer treatment both safer and more effective.

Guidance and Future Prospects

The research was conducted under the guidance of Associate Professor Sukhes Mukherjee from the Department of Biochemistry at AIIMS Bhopal. The study presents new possibilities in cancer treatment, with the potential for clinical trials to validate the findings. If successful, Moringa Oleifera’s bioactive compounds could be used as adjuvants to chemotherapy, improving treatment efficacy and reducing adverse effects.

This achievement has positioned AIIMS Bhopal as a leading institution in cancer research. The study’s findings could revolutionize cancer therapies by integrating traditional natural compounds with modern medicine.

The event was attended by Dean of Research Prof. Rehan-ul-Haq, Dean of Examinations Prof. Vaishali Walke, Head of Biochemistry Department Prof. Jagat R. Kanwar, along with other faculty members and students of the institute.
