CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: Preparations have begun for a movement against the proposed tree felling in the Tuta-Jungle area of Chhattisgarh. The Sangharsh Samiti has objected to the cutting of trees in the forest for the construction of a film city and has demanded that the project be shifted to another location.

In this regard, the committee has written to BJP state in-charge Smriti Irani, urging her to intervene. The committee said that instead of affecting the forest area for the construction of the film city, a site should be selected where the environment and natural resources are not harmed. It has expressed concern that cutting trees in the forest could affect the green cover as well as the local ecology.

Through the letter, the committee placed its concerns and demands on record and appealed for an alternative site to be explored for the project. It has also indicated that a movement may be launched if appropriate action is not taken on its demands.

The film city project has brought the issue of balance between development and environmental protection to the fore. While such projects can create possibilities for employment and tourism in the area, questions are being raised locally over the protection of forests and trees. Attention will now be on the response of the parties concerned and the administrative decision in the matter.
