CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: CNN Central News and Network – ITDC India ePress | ITDC News, Bhopal: Bollywood has made several films on espionage, terrorism and India-Pakistan tensions, but ‘Udta Teer’ tries to present these serious themes through comedy and satire. Directed by Akash A. Kaushik, the film stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan. The film was released in theatres on 23 October 2026.

Story: A spy forgets his identity, and the mission changes. The story revolves around Bilal Ahmed, a Pakistani intelligence agent working in India under the identity of Vikrant Thapar. After an accident, he loses his memory and begins to believe that he is a loyal Indian spy. What follows is a series of misunderstandings, espionage operations and comic situations.

Bilal’s changed identity begins to disrupt the plans of his Pakistani handlers. He ends up standing against the very network he once worked for. The film’s core idea is interesting: a spy who remembers patriotism but is confused about his real identity and country.

Comedy and satire are the film’s strengths. The biggest highlight of ‘Udta Teer’ is its situational comedy and sharp dialogues. Mistaken identity, confusion within intelligence agencies and political satire create entertainment in several scenes. The film’s tone may appeal to viewers who like to see serious subjects handled in a light and satirical way.

However, logic is left behind at several points in the story. Some incidents seem far too unbelievable, and the second half struggles to maintain the steady pace of the first half. As the narrative moves from comedy towards action and patriotism, the mood of the story also changes. Viewers will therefore need to accept its exaggeration to stay connected with the film.

Performances: The film rests on Ayushmann’s shoulders. Ayushmann Khurrana plays a character caught between the dual personalities of Bilal and Vikrant. His comic timing and reactions arising from confusion drive the film forward. Sara Ali Khan plays Yamini, while Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Rahul Bose, Suhail Nayyar and other actors add different shades to the story. The performance of late actor Mukul Dev is also among the film’s notable aspects.

Final verdict: Do not expect logic; expect entertainment. ‘Udta Teer’ is a spy-comedy built on a different idea, but weak links and the uneven pace of the second half limit its impact. If you look for logic and realism in every scene, the film may disappoint you. But if you like a mix of espionage, action, satire and light comedy, you may consider watching it.

Who is the film for? Fans of spy-comedy and Ayushmann Khurrana.
