CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Samajwadi Party founder and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav’s political life saw a phase when he faced a murderous attack. In 1984, his car came under indiscriminate firing near Mainpuri district. Mulayam Singh Yadav narrowly escaped the attack, while his associate Netrapal Singh Yadav, who was with him, was injured. Another person also died in the incident.
According to media reports, Mulayam Singh Yadav was returning to Etawah after addressing a public meeting and meeting an acquaintance. During this time, attackers targeted his car near the Kurra police station area of Mainpuri district. The firing was so intense that nine bullet marks were found on the car. Mulayam Singh Yadav saved his life by ducking down. Security personnel accompanying him retaliated.
His associate Netrapal Singh Yadav was seriously injured in the attack. Teacher Chhotelal, who was travelling ahead of the car, died during the firing. After the incident, police investigated the case. Mulayam Singh Yadav later described the attack as a conspiracy to murder him.
The incident is counted among the most discussed episodes of Mulayam Singh Yadav’s political life. Whenever his role in Uttar Pradesh politics and his struggles are recalled, the story of this attack has also continued to be mentioned.
