CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal:A series of hoax bomb threat calls targeting the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) and a Mumbai-Ahmedabad flight sent authorities into high alert on Thursday. According to police reports, an unidentified individual made multiple calls to senior officials, claiming bombs were planted both at the airport and on the flight.

The first call was received at the office of Navi Mumbai police commissioner Milind Bharambe on Wednesday, with the caller alleging that a bomb was onboard a flight from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. Shortly after, the same individual contacted joint commissioner Sanjay Yenpure’s office, warning of an explosion scheduled at CSMIA around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Authorities immediately launched precautionary measures. Airport security, bomb detection squads, and other intelligence agencies were mobilized to investigate the claims. After thorough inspections, no suspicious items or explosives were found, leading police to declare the threats as false.

“The intent behind the calls was to spread panic and disrupt public order,” a police officer stated. A non-cognizable offence has been registered against the caller under Section 353(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which pertains to statements conducive to public mischief.

Investigations are underway to trace the origin of the calls and identify the suspect. Police have assured that strict action will be taken against those misusing emergency systems to incite fear among the public. Meanwhile, operations at CSMIA continue as normal, with enhanced vigilance.
